Two heads are better than one.
When Michael Betteridge invited me to put in a joint bid for the Sound and Music Composer-Curator scheme with him I had not hesitation in agreeing. Michael and I have similar attitudes to what we want our music to achieve both as entertainment and sociopolitical comment, so working together made perfect sense. With funding in place and venues booked it is now time to get down to the serious job of writing the piece. My aim as always will be to write something which is thought provoking and entertaining but this time I want to work hard at embedding a real sense of theatre in the score. I have met with Nick Blackburn, who will direct 'In Their Own Words', to help sculpt the libretto and I am hoping his input will help create something which pushes the boundaries of music-theatre towards a less narrative driven, more performance art presentation.
With my previous work 'Brainsong' I had begun this journey away from a traditional music-theatre format towards something more unique and I look forward to developing my style further during this project.
